My Last name is currently Beagley which I got from my Dad but I don't like the name because both my dad and my brother have bad criminal records and my brother has used my clean name to get out of trouble before when he was on parole, This has left a stain on my name because I have to do security checks every year for my job. I don't respect my dad because he is a drunk and I don't really want to carry on his name. I am an aspiring entrepreneur and I want to be successful in the business world. I feel a bad association to my last name. I'm thinking about taken my Grandmothers maiden last name which was Bosanco and starting fresh because soon I'm going to be having a son of my own and I think I need to start my own family name but it is a massive hassle to change all my ID and certificates. Plus Beagley has been my name for the last 28 years so have to decide before my son comes because he will get my name.. any comments/advise welcome

It's not that big of a deal to change your name. You should definitely go for it. You could even get creative and choose the last name of a historic figure, like Revere. I have had the experience of changing my last name for marriage. Also, we changed my daughter's name a month after she was born. In both cases, it was just a matter of filling out the proper forms, easier than paying taxes. There may be some processing fee, but usually minimal for a first time name change.

This will be quite a task and also could be complicared.

You willind it difficult to stop your brother impersonating you in the future if you do change.

I would, but only because I know from experience what a name can mean when there are are past issues, such as bankruptcy etc.

Go for it. Because, your son does not need such a future.
