Why does my brother think he can get away with treating people poorly?

He treats us all like crap and has taken to being nice when he wants something. I'm home from college so I'm done with school. My mother works and my brother sprained his leg in track so he has crutches. She asked if I would drive him to school and I said sure.

He is 17 and the first strike was when I woke him up at 7:15 (he has to be at school by 7:45) and told him he wasn't up yet. He yelled at my for not waking him up and I said I wasn't told to and that he had two alarm clock. He then ordered me to go wait in the car for him.

I waited 10 minutes and he still wasn't out. I went in and he started yelling at me. I told him I'm not going to just sit in the car so I made coffee and got in the car when he was ready.

He then kept calling me every swear word in the book at every red light like I could actually drive through the two cars stopped in front of me. He told me to pull around and drop him off at the school door, but it is a one way street so I went to pull around he started swearing at me for not driving up a one way street and for being late. He then jumped out of the car to start crutching to the door. I yelled, "Don't miss the bus, you burned this bridge!"

Does he really think he can treat me like crap like he does the rest of the family and get away with it? I have friends who would kill their little brothers if they looked at them funny. I was doing a nice thing by getting up so early. I was up 30 minutes before he had to go to school and it takes 6 minutes to get there. Why does my brother think he can get away with treating people poorly? The bus is half a block away, and I refuse to ever drive him to school again.

ha! wondering how your parents do it? put your foot down, hes old enough to get up off his butt himself. I wouldnt wake him up, Id leave him in bed. If he wants a ride, you should tell him to wake you up when hes ready to go!!! lol this is a trip...welcome to parenthood

Why does anyone get away with it Because people let him. Stop allowing it. Of course he thinks he can treat you like crap and get away with it. He does get away with it- you let him!

If I had offered him a lift I wouldnt also be waking him up. Why are you waking up a 17 year old? If hes not up in time for when you leave you leave. Get him an alarm clock- and get yourself some self respect.

It sounds like your brother gets what he wants all the time. Spoiled is never a good thing for a kid. Or maybe hes just plain out rude and ungrateful. Either way I wouldn't put up with it. sorry if I was harsh! (;
