Last year I hosted a Mother's Day Dinner consisting of a 5 course meal and invited my mother, father, husband, etc. including my Father in Law and Mother in Law. My Mother in Law never wished me a Happy Mother's day. It was my very first Mother's Day ever, my son was almost one years old at that time. He is her only grandson.

This year my husband, son and I visited her place with homemade cake, a card made by my two year old son, and a present from him to her. She did not try the cake and did not reciprocate in wishing me a Happy Mother's Day.

My question is: Should I be offended? Should a Mother in Law wish a Daughter in Law a Happy Mother's Day if she too is a mother?

She may feel the person to do the wishing is her son- not you since you are an" in law." I think she has no manners. You can't make other people wish you a happy day, but you can wish her a happy day. Just remember; you are not dependent on her to have a happy mothers day.Yea !! . = )

She is being very rude so next year have your husband call her to wish her Happy Mothers day and you spend the day with your little family. Maybe she will get the hint that you too are a mother. By the way, Happy Mothers Day, whats left of it anyway...:)

Yes, you should be either offended or realize your mother-in-law has little to no sense of etiquette! It is quite proper for anyone to wish any mother Happy Mother's Day! The fact that she didn't shows either her ignorance or her intent to offend!

Happy belated Mother's Day!!
