Parents, what sort of books do you prefer for your children?

Would you buy books that are based on clean problem solving material. Such as how to deal with bullying ( fictional stories) . Mysteries ? Such as missing objects and hunting why, where, when ? Or for younger children stories of animals as humans or human so the child can fit into the story ?

What about non-fiction ? Real life issues like problems in school for example, Home issues. Learning respect, and sharing ?

Or are you more into ghost stories, vampires, fantasy style books for your children ?

What do you prefer for your kids ? and what is the average price in which you would pay for such books ? 99 cents to even maybe 2.99 ?

Do you prefer long story books or shorter stories for your children ?

Actual books you hold or Kindle or Nook style books ?

Illustrated ones or non Illustrated ones ?

Just trying to get a sense of what Parents really want for their kids and what sort of books are their children into ?

Doing a study with all the new e-book ease of use versus hand held books and with all the new style horror and or fantasy books of today seeing how many Parents would rather have other style books.

Just curious for my own study. Any and all answers are greatly appreciated, and even if there are any authors who would like to comment , please feel free.

Speaking more about children not teens or young adults. Pre-teen maybe fits into this category perhaps.

Mostly children in the elementary school age range 5 to 12 perhaps.

But all answers are welcome from any age groups.

Thank you in advance.

Well, I'm still only 14 and obviously don't have children, but I plan to in 10+ years. I highly value reading and anything my future kids want to read (that's appropriate for the age level) would be welcome. That's what my parents did.

I have a six year old Kindergardner. I bought her a kindell Fire but she will not read any of the books on it she only plays the games.

She loves to read books like Mittens and Noodles We read Junie B Jones together. I would like to see more interactive books for the Kindell I could only find one about a witch and it kinda creeps her out.

My 7 year old second grader loves Judy Moody and anything about Dogs(non fiction). She bought a story about a horse for her ipod that read to her. She also enjoys reading anything about animals again Non Fiction.

I loved to read the Hunger Games series and I am almost forty, I also enjoyed the twilight series.

There are too many games on their gadgets for them to take them seriously as readers. They enjoy the read along features however. But there is not any replacement for just curling up in bed with a good page turner. I love scholastics because they have great deals on books, I also love the used book store and we just rediscovered the library..

March is reading month. Happy Birthday Dr. Suess
