My mother's 40th birthday is coming up on Valentine's Day. We are very very close but I have never been very good about gift ideas... I have moved out since last year, and started my own family halfway across the country so we won't get to see her this year :(
She doesn't like jewelry. She's a realtor, and is super busy with work. She's easygoing and very funny. She's not the type to spend money on herself. Doesn't spend a lot of time in the kitchen and she has been on a diet, so having candy or food shipped to her house would not be a good idea.
Best thing I can think of so far is buying something online and having it shipped, or maybe calling a local spa and setting up a spa package. I don't know!!

my idea would be a day at the spa like how you said if shes always busy that would be a good idea for her to relax. My moms around that age and shes always busy i got that for her she loved it. You could also take her out to brunch and spend mother daughter time together.

That sounds really sweet, I think a gift from the heart is the best you can give a person. I liked all of your ideas, plus she's a friend and she knows you don't have a lot of dough (an old word for money), and no it's not lame sweet heart.

Or if she is really busy have something done for her for a month like cleaning or food delivery or flowers something frivolous...pamper her

I love Gifts.com because it sort of lets you do a profile on a person and they come up with gift suggestions. Give it a try. Also redenvelope is a good site to look at when wondering what to buy.

Spa package...excellent idea!!

Lately I thought it would be great to learn a new language...does your Mom have a place where she'd like to travel someday?? If so, maybe you could get her a language lesson set (ie..RosettaStone software). If she'd like to go to France someday...French, Italy...Italian...you get the idea. I thought I might learn Spanish or Arabic.

You sound like a sweet and thoughtful daughter! Have fun! : )
