Question:
My dad gifted me a POS Nissan 370z on my birthday. Is he nuts?

So, I've turned 18 just 2 days ago. On my birthday, my father (who is a multi-millionaire) gave me a pathetic Nissan 370z as a birthday gift.

Almost ALL of my friends have Porsches, Audis & BMW Z Convertibles.

And the leader of my group; a daughter of a billionaire is likely getting a Lamborghini or a Ferrari on her birthday next week.

I had made it perfectly clear that I want either a Porsche 911 or Audi TT R8 but that old fart couldn't afford it and now I've ended up with a cheap rice burner and to add insult to the injury, he expect me to say: "Oh, thank you, daddy!" Is this guy for real?

I'm going to a nice, expensive college and he bought me a pathetic Asian trash that you see in tuner culture?

I cried when he unveiled the car at my birthday party in front of all my friends. I was expecting a Porsche and had told ALL of my friends about it, so you can understand my embarrassment. And what else? That fool (who happens to be my dad) thought that I'm just so happy and excited that I'm crying in sheer excitement...

And that's what the head of our group said before she left: "Lets hope we don't see you entering the college on your first day in that NISSAN" with a strong emphasis on the word: Nissan.

I'm crying in tears since then. I yelled at Dad and he says he can't afford a nicer car cause the business is down.

Is money more important than my life and my life?

I cant write anymore because I'm crying so hard right now... I'm not even posting on Facebook.

Interesting, but utterly unbelievable. You'll receive plenty of hate for the character you portray in your short story. I would have liked to know what group you're in that has a leader.

You spoilt pathetic little b*stard,id boil your head in a pan if you were my kid,I got given a 1997 Vauxhall astra 1.7 turbo diesel with 250,000 miles on and no mot that my dad had took in as part exchange at £80 scrap value for my first car when I passed in 2007, I was made up,I got my tools out fixed it up did what was required for mot then cleaned and tidied it up and added mods to it, and in the end I probably had one of the nicer cars out of my group of friends as they all had 1.2 clios and Corsa etc I worked hard to pay for what needed doin and have done so ever since if I’d saved up I could have bought a better car but I did the Astra up pure to the fact my dad GAVE me it, I also think it was done for father son bonding as he helped me, the way you speak of your father is utterly atrocious and you have respect, if your giving the piece of sh!t Nissan away il take it, I wouldnt Trust you with a Tonka toy let alone a Porsche, I don’t even think your real

The feeling is mutual; little one!

When I turned 18; my family couldn't afford my bus fare so they told me to take a hike!

I was so MAD at them! You know what I did; I took a hammer and...

Broke my piggy bank, what else?! My cousin had a rusty bicycle just rotting in his garage; I offered him £10 for it and settled for £15.

Then I bought some cheap machine oil from a nearby sewing machine mechanic and lubed everything, took a toolkit and tight every nut and bolt I could find and then I finally patched the tubes and voila. It ran like a charm!

I think that's what you should do!

Oh please. I had to beg and bug my parents about buying me a car because they refused. If it wasn't for my aunt and my cousin I wouldn't be driving today. My cousin had to buy her own after her mom died and her father lived in a shelter. And you are sitting her telling people what car you want. You better be lucky you even have a car.

Still a sports car, besides buy your own car with own money instead of making tantrums. Your whole group sounds infantile & retarded

No, your dad is not nuts. He is being very smart. My parents never gave me a car. Long before I was 16 and old enough to have a driver's license, they told me that if I wanted a car I would need to buy my own because we couldn't afford it at the time.

Janis Joplin wrote a great song about a weird prayer back in the 1960's. Google "Oh Lord, won't you give me a Mercedes Benz" and listen to it. yours is a more up to date version of that song---I think you may like it

If your real, and with such a degree of total ignorance there is some doubt, someone should take you outside and punch your head till you don't know which way tomorrow is.

You spoilt ignorant wretch. Your Fathers generosity is totally wasted . He should first of all have taught you some manners. He should resell the Nissan and buy you a bicycle , with the advice to grow up a little and eventually purchase your own transport. You have a lot to learn son, and life has an uncanny way of directing folk like you towards the right school of learning.

Yes, he's nuts. He obviously is completely out of touch with reality.

What you need to do (you might have to use some of your trust fund to finance this, but it'll pay off in the long run) is arrange for your car to be stolen by an Asian street racing gang, then crashed. This will be evidence for your father that the car is a bad fit for you. Get the gang to leave a dead body in the crashed car. Then mention to your father how much safer European engineered cars are. Just don't overdo it -- you don't want to end up with a Subaru.

I think your dad should take the new Nissan away from you, sell it, and buy you a new bicycle in its place. You can peddle your way to college.

I'm not too sure that an ungrateful brat like you even deserves a bicycle.

Hmmm, wonder what its like to be you. I think you should be glad to have ANY vehicle to get around as some folk have to walk everywhere, bike everywhere or take public transportation. Rich Kid problems indeed. I wonder if you've ever had to skip a meal because you wanted your children to eat. I wonder if you've ever had to borrow money from a family member to pay your power bill? I wonder if you've ever been so hard up that you had to put news paper in your shoes because of the holes in the bottom of them? Shame on you for complaining about something most people would be happy to receive.

Daddy knows what an irresponsible driver you are, and that you are likely to wreck the car within a year. So he's not going to spend large bucks on something you are going to trash. And he will make you pay for your next car yourself.
