Hi Kat, do you know the name of the city to which she passed? If so, I'd check that city's newspaper, (search online for their local paper and likely you'll find the link) and start there. Most death notices are archived and you can search for last name. If it's your local paper, you can check at your public library. Ask any librarian to assist you. Old newspapers are stored on microfiche and you can view them that method. Good luck!

In most areas (in the US anyway), the law requires obituaries to be published in the local paper. Go to either your library OR online to your local newspaper website and look up obits. for July 2000.
Depending on how good their website is, you may have to make a trip to your newspapers office.

By state-county then city and the city or county courthouse should have record of the deceased. By law they are required to keep ledgers on deaths. Maybe the city or county news paper distributors.

That depends on where you live. There are web site that you can do it, but mist of the time if you ring the cemetery where she is burried they might be able to help you more. When I was doing my family histoey I rand the cemetery where my grandfather and great grandmother were burried and they gave me a phone number to ring where they can help me further.
